Our Vision

The ultimate goal of The King's Embrace is to bring healing and wholeness, (physically, emotionally, and spiritually) to the young boys currently living on the streets in Bungoma town, Kenya.  Some of these boys are orphans, most are not.  There are many reasons for ending up on the streets.  Some have run away to escape the physical and emotional abuse they suffer at the hands of their parents, step-parents, or siblings.  Some are there simply because their families do not have enough money to support them.  Once on the streets, however, it is a battle for survival.  Begging and stealing become a way of life.  Hunger is their constant companion. With the meager amount of money they receive from begging, some boys will choose to buy glue instead of food.  Food will only make the hunger pains go away for a few hours but huffing glue gives them a high that helps them cope with the hunger pains for days and helps keep them warm at night.  Many boys become addicted to huffing glue.  It is a common sight to see boys holding bottles of glue in their mouths all over the streets of Bungoma town.  The King's Embrace endeavors to rescue these boys and show them the love and compassion that Christ has shown us, for that is what we are called to do.

EMBRACE LOVE

Each week we buy loaves of bread and drinks then drive around town to the areas where the street boys hang out. Our staff distributes the food and visits with the boys, getting to know them and seeing how best to help them.

Embrace Family

Some children living on the street are orphans, many are not.  Some chose to leave home because of parents who abused or neglected them.  TKE staff members work to locate the boy's biological family and try to reunite them if possible.  When reunification is not possible, we welcome them into The King's Embrace family.

EMBRACE EDUCATION

While primary education (grades 1-8) is officially free in Kenya, most schools require payment of various fees, the purchase of books, and school uniforms including shoes. Many families cannot afford these items and their children are sent home from school until payment can be made.  Secondary education is not free and is out of the grasp of most families.

EMBRACE COMMUNITY

In addition to helping the street boys of Bungoma town, TKE is helping the residents of our immediate community by providing clean water and supplying many of them with jobs.  We also work to collaborate locally and internationally with schools, churches, businesses, and other nonprofit organizations to provide support both for our boys and for the benefit of the community at large.
