Restore Families
Some children living on the streets are orphans, many are not. Some chose to leave home because of family members who abused or neglected them. But for many, that is not the case. Although hard to comprehend, parents who genuinely love their children are forced to send them to the streets. The harsh reality is that in societies where education and jobs are unattainable and aid programs are nonexistent, poverty forces many children to the streets in order to survive because parents are unable to provide necessary food. The King’s Embrace diligently strives to restore and strengthen family bonds by identifying individual circumstances that cause separation and providing assistance that will reunite and empower the entire family. Reunification with biological family, in a safe environment, is our first goal. When reunification is not possible, we welcome them into The King’s Embrace family.
A family environment is abundantly apparent at The King’s Embrace home. Staff members are addressed by the familial terms of daddy, mama, grandma, and grandpa. Our staff members are devoted to fulfilling these roles for each child under their care. After dinner our staff frequently sit outside with the boys, socializing, telling stories, laughing, just enjoying each other’s company.
Nutritious meals are served daily with the boys taking turns washing dishes. The boys are assigned weekly chores which they do without complaining. They wash their own clothes and clean the compound weekly. They help harvest the maize and do other farm cores. They understand they must contribute to the wellbeing of their family.
Each of our two dormitories can house up to 40 boys with 2 sets of bunk beds per room. There is a library for studying and a tv room for relaxation. We have a soccer pitch, a basketball court, and a playground for the boys’ recreational activities.
Church services are held on Sundays with the boys joyfully participating. The worship music, both guitar and piano, is provided by the boys. Memory verses are quoted and many times the sermons are given by one of the young men who have prepared it with help from staff.
Physically, emotionally, and spiritually, The King’s Embrace staff meets the needs of all the young men under our care.
